Years ago spikes and ferrules were a common method for hanging gutters.

All you need to perform this is a ladder and a rubber mallet. If clips or brackets hold your gutters check for broken clips and loose or missing screws. It s pretty easy and cheap to replace old gutter spikes with screws once they separate from the eave of your house. If your gutters use long spikes or nails that go through the front of the gutter replace them with threaded spikes for a more secure fit.

If you have u shaped brackets holding your gutter from underneath change out the ones that are broken or loose. Gutters are often installed using aluminum gutter spikes and ferrules which can bend easily and work loose over time. They do the job all right but eventually the spikes work themselves loose. If you nail in a gutter spike and it is immediately loose within a few days you can replace them with gutter screws and get a few more years of support for your gutters.
